Summary
The report discusses the scientific shortcomings of the ecological report by Wilkins & Davies Group, and assesses ecological, particularly ecotoxicological, implications of the marina proposal to the Whitianga harbour and greater Mercury Bay.
To assess the environmental effects of the proposed marina.
Content
Analysis of tin, lead, copper and zinc concentration in pipi, hornshells (Zeacumanthus lutelentus) and mud whelk (Cominella glandiformis), and sediment samples taken from the vicinity of the proposed marina and the existing wharf.

4. Data acquisition information
Collection Date
October – December 1987
Methodology
Estuarine sediment and shellfish samples are assayed for tin, lead, copper and zinc concentrations. Shellfish included pipi, hornshells (Zeacumanthus lutelentus) and mud whelk (Cominella glandiformis). Sediment samples consisted of 1.5 -2 kg sloppy, wet sediment collected within 0.5 cm of the surface. Atomic absorption spectroscopy was used.
Frequency of collection:
